Melasma, also known as ‘chloasma’, is a common skin problem often triggered by hormone changes and sun exposure, resulting in brown patches on the body, most commonly the face, including the cheeks, bridge of the nose, forehead, chin, and above the upper lip. Although melasma may affect both men and women, the majority of those affected are women. Individuals of Latin or Asian ethnicity are also more likely to develop melasma.
At Amwaj Polyclinic, we use the “gold standard” in laser treatment for melasma, with pulses that gently break and ablate the pigment so that the body’s immune system can naturally remove the pigment particles.
Remember that, after the treatment, you should always wear sunblock when outside and avoid sun exposure, which can retrigger pigmentation
